Norm, I think I would listen more to what you had to say if you were still breeding and/or showing. I find it hard to read the criticism of a dog from someone who is no longer involved in the breed.

Now, now....everyone get their hackles down This has been an excellent thread. I have been watching it closely with great interest. Norm, you do not need to submit a resume I do believe that you know a nicely structured dog when you see one. Thanks everyone, for not letting this turn into a major flamefest, and I hope to see some more participation in the subject. Laurie

Dana, What is your opinion of licensed judges that no longer breed or exhibit? Do you think they forget what a GSD is all about? Do you find it hard to read my criticisms or approval of dogs because you don't agree with me? Please feel free to bypass my posts. I usually find when posts on these boards become personal it means I am hitting sore spots. Norm, I think I would listen more to what you had to say if you were still breeding and/or showing. Dana,
I think that you are right on! I have been trying to impress upon a certain person the way that the GSD show ring, both AKC and FCI, has changed. We all know that this person can still recognize a good dog. He just wants to avoid the current trends and live in the past. It is nice to be removed from the show circuit and remain idealistic. The rest of us must be realistic! The standard has not changed…people’s interpretations as well as focuses have changed, and that is sad but true!

Kristin, "A certain person" would really appreciate it if someone with all of your current knowledge could bring him up to date on all of the changes in the AKC & FCI show rings. Maybe they judge dogs differently these days. Do they now move around the ring counter clock wise? Do they check bitches for testicles? You write "The standard has not changed…people’s interpretations as well as focuses have changed...." Do you mean that people no longer breed for firm backs, sloping croups, tight feet & correctly angled pasterns? Do breeders now ignore correct, balanced angulation. What are the current trends? Please help bring me up to date. Thank you in advance for your help. ;D [quote author=gsdpal2 link=board=lines&thread=1078100343&start=49#3 Dana, I think that you are right on! Kristin, I have some questions for you. 1. Is the dog pictured below a dog of the past or one of recent times? 2. If you think he is a dog of the past do you think that he could compete in the show ring taking into consideration the "current trends" of which you are so aware?
