Beware everyone the Nigerians are at it again. Thank goodness I had a GREAT AT&T operator. They are coming through as Relay calls (sometimes used for deaf and hearing impaired folks)now trying to send you the bogus checks. Just want to give eveyone the heads up to be careful!!

Would you go into more detail about how the scam is set up? I haven't heard about the phone variation.
Do they try to get you to give your checking account over the phone?
There are a couple of other phone scams out there. One attempts yo get you to call one of a number of area codes that turn out to be in the bahamas and bill your phone at an extrordinarily high rate. The other is to get you to dial a key code that turns your telephone line over to the caller, allowing them to place expensive long distance calls on your nick.
Be careful out there.

I don't take no kind to people who's wanting to sell me stuff over the phone. This might be the juvenile thing to do but what you do is to annoy 'em back with something that you can laugh over. Before we get into details... go to www.ebaumsworld.com/morepranks.shtml and download some of the sound wavs that you see... I would recommend that you download all of the Arnold Schwarzenegger soundwavs, trust me their pretty funny  After you get the idea that I'm about to discuss to go to the soundboards page www.ebaumsworld.com/soundboards.shtml A soundboard is a flash of which has sounds that you click on, like a storage. What you need is a computer (duh) a MIC (to hear it over and over again until you get bored of) and a sound recorder. After that then your A-Okay! Ok when a stranger calls you outta nowhere trying to sell you something that you say "hold on" and then turn on your computer,MIC and the Recording software and then open up a soundboard of which you feel comfortable of using ( DON'T USE Dennis Hopper's or you will go to jail, or prison for sure!) and start messing around with them until they get very annoyed and hangs up. This could be the master key of getting them off of your tail  PS, It's perfectly legal as they were the one who called you |

Guess I should have clarified they are trying to buy Dogs or puppies you have for sale. The AT&T relay service is also for Deaf and hearing impaired folks as well as internet relay. Well people in nigeria are contacting in regards to puppies and asking question. They actually sound VERY good (Hence with relay you do not necessarily know where they are luckily I had a GREAT operator who said this is a scam they are in Nigeria)
Ok, Say puppy is $800 they offer you $2000 so they can have thier shipper pick up etc. Your bank will clear the check,with cashier check may take actually 10-14 days to really clear the clearing house. By than you have forwarded the extra money to a shipper all to find out the cashier check or bank draft was a forgery and you are now responsible to the bank for that check. In some cases heard they have picked up the animal. Guess they are doing this with dogs and horses.
Hope this clarifies better. I would never take more money than I am asking and forward to anyone. But amazes me the way these scammers operate!! Sorry hard to clarify exactly.

Yep, you've seen the cashier's check scam. It's been hitting the horse breeding and equipment sales areas, and probably others as well. I've described it in another thread, but you seem to have sussed it out pretty well. There is a good description of this scam on www.snopes.com |

What I worry about is hearing that sometimes they are picking up the animals. What happens to the poor dogs, horses or whatever once they take them!!  Amazing what these cons try. |
