Angus' show is on Sunday, should I bathe him on Thursday or Friday? I've heard its better to bathe them a few days prior so the natural oils in their hair can come back but I dont want him to get dirty in the mean time. Thanks!

It all depends on the dog -- I have some I bathe several days before a show, others are barely dry on the way into the ring.
I let the coat and the conditions be my guide.

If he isn't dirty, you might elect not to bathe him at all! If he's blowing coat, don't bathe him.
We bathe 3 or 4 days before a show, then touch up at the show with grooming spray, a rake and a towel.

In general I've found that if I use an air dryer, the dogs look FABULOUS and in their 'clean coat glory" the next day after a bath. If it's an 'al fresco' dry procedure, it takes a full two to three days before I get that glistening look, once they're fully dry and fluffy. So far for times that I want him clean, like shows, I"ve bathed and groomed Sax up 3-4 days before the big event. Of course there was the one time that I wanted him clean that it rained and rained and rained between the bath day and the weekend, leaving me one dog with a layer of muddy on top of a layer of clean.

well, hes at the groomers now getting bathed. He hasnt been bathed since last show and he's been laying around in the dirt so maybe he needs it anyways. Its pouring rain here so he's gonna be locked up in the house for now...I was gonna bath him myself but mom said no dogs in the bathtub! Huh, Why not?!?
