I think that before a member should be able to place an ad in the Marketplace area they should be a contributing member of this Board for a given amount of time. This will stop people whose only reason for joining is to sell puppies, dogs or advertise a stud. Any opinions?

Norm
I can see where your idea comes from and I can see the merits of the suggestion.
My feelings are that for people who's first language is not English will find it hard to communicate. There are also people that find it very difficult to put words to paper for various reasons. As noble an idea you have expressed I believe it could be detrimental to the board to impose conditions upon other people.
I think people who read this board will also gradually sort the wheat from the chaff out. Some of us find it easy to express an opinion others do not.
Regards

Freundhund, If they know enough English to continuously post ads they should be able to write an introduction when they join. Hi Norm, I know what you mean about feeling like virtual strangers will bombarding the site with FOR SALE ads, and not contribute in any other way. It doesn't seem fair that someone should place ads to make money off of the rest of us, and not have contributed anything else to the Board. I've recently heard of a nice woman who is not a member of this board, has experience in genetics and reproduction and is just starting with some foundation stock in GSDs. If she wanted to place an ad the same day that she joined, I think that it'd be OK, albeit putting the cart before the horse, in our eyes. Maybe introductions should be mandatory ( I could never think of the right thing to say about myself) I don't think that the number of posts would be a good tool, as there is plenty of flotsam here that adds up quickly, but I don't know if time is a good tool either, e.g., if a person signs on as a member this year, doesn't contribute (voyeurism is not disallowed ) and then has one or more Marketplace Ads next year. Still thinking...

Regards FReundhund Hi Freundhund, I get weary of needing to separate the wheat from the chaff in every corner of my life. Is there no safe haven? If people can express themselves in an ad, then, they can express themselves in a comment. After all, there is only one way to communicate on a Web Discussion Board and that is with a keyboard. There are plenty of translation programs that one can use, if in doubt, some of them free, but not always dog term specific.
