Guide dog in taxi row By Holly Lloyd-McDonald March 1, 2004 A TAXI driver refused to pick up a visually impaired man because he would not allow the man's guide dog in the car. The incident happened at the Crown complex on Friday night after the driver refused to let Bob Curry and his four-legged friend into the taxi. Police attended the scene and the incident will be investigated by the Victorian Taxi Directorate. Mr Curry said the refusal to take his dog in the taxi was more than just an inconvenience. "It's d**n embarrassing, it's almost insulting," he said. Victorian Taxi Associa tion chief executive officer, Neil Sach, said Mr Curry and his dog should have been permitted to enter the taxi. Guide Dogs Victoria public relations co-ordinator, Christine Dodds, said a guide dog was allowed to travel anywhere a person was allowed, except in certain parts of a hospital and the zoo.
