Hello Folks,
Didn't really know under what banner to post this...Training ?.....Feeding ?....Health Issues ?..but what the heck?!! Here goes...
I have been spending a quiet Sunday Afternoon, going through all the lovely pics of everyones dogs, and in some cases themselves or their offsprings (Aaaaah!).
A thought crossed my mind that I would like to share with you.
If I were to line up a couple of thousand pictures of dogs heads, with your dog as one of them, I bet you would pick him out. Also, If I was to line up same number of people with your nearest and dearest among them, again, you would be able to pick that person out.
I can hear you all thinking 'What the devil is that old fool ranting about now' - so let me get on!!!
If this is the case, just think of number of possible permutaions of all these people and all these dogs - every one different, not only in facial appearance, but in personality, ability, attitude and shape!!!
How therefore can anyone tell someone else how to do something with their dog on a written forum, without knowing personally the owner, and the dog. Beyond basics, that is!!! Most of you are trainers - whether it just be your own pet dog, to being an active trainer as an instructor at Sch3 level, and as we know - generalisations just don't work - each animal needs treating differently, and what worked with one in a particular circumstance just messes up another.
Only the owner of a dog, who lives with it 24/7 really knows and understands his dog, once they have had a few - so how confusing for 'first time owners' in a Forum like this, when the experts give advice, and it doesn't work.
I have seen in this, and in other Forums and Groups, advice freely given - with the best of intention and kindness, that I would personally not take - due to past experience. The beginner has no past experience, so follows blindly.
I think that all advice - whether given by experienced Breeders or Trainers, either in these forums or at the Training Club, until proved otherwise should carry a Government Health Warning - 'This advice is based on my own personal experience, with my own dogs - it may or may not be of use to you'
This applies to Diet, Health issues, Husbandry, Training and all other aspects of caring for our canine companions
Hoping this may start an interesting discussion,
Kind regards,
John
