sorry this is so long, but I just had to share. It was a beautiful morning yesterday, so I put baby Grace in her carrier, snapped on Cougar’s leash, and the 3 of us started off on a walk to our local coffee shop.
Brag 1! - Half way there, a van stopped on the opposite side of the road and the female driver was waving at us. I crossed the street, and walked around to the passenger’s side to see a little boy waving at us. He was about 8 yrs old, and mentally challenged – but he had the biggest grin on his face. His mom said he was afraid of dogs but that he always got excited when he saw Cougar. His mom opened his door, and I put Coug in a sit stay 2 feet from the door. My normally feisty and eager 16mo old GSD just sat there wagging his tail as the little boy waved and cooed at him. Good dog!!
Brag 2! – We continued our walk. This was the 1st time I had walked Coug to the coffee shop. I put him on a down stay outside the door, but where he could see me at all times. I ordered my almond soy latte (yum!) and a cup of water for my dog. Cougar remained in his spot, even as people walked past him through the doors. I was very proud of him as we have been working on his stays. I found a table outside and when the lady brought me my order, she had not only brought Cougar a BOWL of water, but also a plate of Milkbones!! He certainly deserved that treat for showing everyone that a big (and sometimes stereotyped) dog CAN be well behaved!
hubby snapped this pic of Grace, me, and the good dog after we returned from our walk...
Thanks for reading!
