OUR NEWEST PUPPY WE HAVE FOUND HAS MEGAESOPHAGUS, AND WE ALMOST LOST HIM. WE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY TO SAVE THIS PUP, AND HE IS DOING GREAT ;D ;D. THE BREEDER HAS BEEN PHENOMINAL. I COULDN'T HAVE ASKED FOR MORE. MY QUESTION IS, HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS AND WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME. WE ARE KEEPING THIS PUP REGARDLESS, AS HE WILL BE A LOVED FAMILY PET AND COMPANION. ANY ADDITIONAL INSIGHT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU.

You can go to google.com and look up Megasophagus for more information. I've never had a pup with this disease, but I know that in the milder cases, the animal can be saved. People find assistance in feeding the animal in an upright position, I've read.

Hi, Shrabe. I have a friend with a white GSD who was diagnosed with Megaesophagus when he was but about 4 months old. They did not think the pup would survive. Sometimes, they can outgrow it. Other times they cannot. As in her case, she still have the boy...he is about 6 now and is an ACTIVE SAR dog with the Ramapo ARDA unit in NJ. He searched the WTC landfill. He is doing really well and obviously able to work hard.
They do feed him on an incline, which seems to help and I believe she used to feed him soft foods that would "slide down easily". I think he may be on kibble now.
There are success stories out there. There is a lot of information out there on the internet. Good luck to you.
