For me.. watch means.. keep your eyes on me..
Touch is something I teach my dogs.. I begin by teaching them to just touch the palm of my hand with thier noses.. I start with food in the hand.. and very quickly get the dog to do this without the food.. I use the touch command when I want to release my dog from heel position.. i put my left hand up about shoulder high.. tell them to touch..and up they jump to touch my hand.. my dogs love to touch..

Watch for me is the same as Jody, I want the dog to look at me.
I teach my dogs touch too. I teach them to target my left hand (back of it) and this is how I teach them heel work.
Starting off I click and treat for everytime they touch my hand with their nose, we play games of holding my hand up high and they have to jump up to touch, moving in a cirlce with them chasing my hand and once they catch it they get a treat. This gets them really keen on touching my hand.
I then progress onto holding my hand straight out parallel with my body and just slightly above the dogs head and slowly move off in a circle. By this stage the dog is really keen on my hand and follows. Gradually over a short period of time I move my hand in closer to my body until its in the heel work position ie just on my left hip ( adjust up or below according to the dogs height ). The result is a happy, keen, eager dog doing stylish heelwork!
Ok I know I rambled on a bit there but thats why I teach touch. I also teach touch for teaching 'sendaways'!

Alright, thanks. "Watch" we do too, of course, it sounds different in German I wasn't sure. Touch I never heard of over here.

My experience with touch has been very positive. I have taught many dogs the touch command and never had one bite my hand. I use more than my hand, however with touch. I teach them to touch the end of a stick and a small round target - like a yogurt container lid.
I use the stick and transfer it to a stick marker that stands upright off the ground. When teaching the send out...I tell the dog to touch the upright marker and gradually put the marker farther and farther away. Eventually, I teach the dog to drop before he gets to the marker so he listens to my command.
Also, I use touch to teach the dog directionals for agility. I use 2 upright markers and send the dog to the markers using my directional, then click and treat for going to the correct marker. Now the dog has learned to follow my hand signal directional.
The round touch target, I place on the contacts in agility. I actually use the word "target" instead of "touch" which means to the dog touch it with your foot. Dogs can distinquish between touching with their nose and touching with their feet. I simply use a different command. With the agility equipment where they have to step in the contacts, it is extremely easy to teach that if they know the touch with the foot.
The uses for the touch command are endless. I also use it for "come when called". The dog is at a distance, I hold out my hand and say "touch". The dog comes flying to touch my hand and it is followed by a click and treat.
It is a great motivational training tool.

We are training Elsa in a combination of "deutsch" and english. (according to what is practical for others) I am just curious if there is another german word to use, as I find the "Achtung!" command to be a bit guttural and troublesome for my non-german speaking wife. (it's actually funny to hear her try if I try to teach her! :- ) )

I just say "Schau" or "schau mich an"... I like that. That does make sense. Or i could use "guck!" or "gucke mal!" But schau does seem a bit more natural. Thanks! Servus, Jon
