I have a son and grand daughter of Nero. My question is how is Nero's work ethic and does he like his work. What are his strengths and weaknesses? What lines seem to cross with him the best? David

Based on his photo, from a conformation point of view, I would breed for better angulation and a correct back. Were you considering doing a line breeding on Nero? You can see Nero at this link: www.hoflin.com/images/image2022.gifI have a son and grand daughter of Nero. My question is how is Nero's work ethic and does he like his work. I believe that it says something about his work ethic that Nero not only has his SchH III, but also has his IPO III and FH titles. I personally really enjoy seeing dogs that are challenged beyond the minimum amount of titling required, and I think that it really takes a dog with the enthusiasm to work in order to do so. I have heard wonderful things about Nero being a great house dog, and really enjoying retirement though. He seems like a dog that was able to 'turn it on' when asked, however, he's comfortably able to settle in to a more sedate lifestyle, too. From a little bit of what I've observed, those big beautiful ears of his can come back to haunt you in future generations if you're not careful to watch earsize and earset of your mating. I've seen a few pups have soft ears and need a bit of help to get them standing again. Heck, I guess nobody's perfect!

Here's a picture of him: Norm, when you say 'better angulation' do mean that you'd like to see more? How do you feel about the balance of angulation between his front and rear? What don't you like about his topline, is it the slope? You've always got such interesting input, thanks in advance.

Nicole, In the front he has a short upper arm and is somewhat straight in the shoulder. He is also not sufficiently angulated in the rear. He does not have the correct level Shepherd back. As for balance due to the lack of fore and rear angulation he might be a balanced mover, but not one with a correct length of stride.
