Her name is Hazel vom Haingraben, DOB April 2003. She caught my eye as well, I like her longer, straighter topline. I am going to post pics of her parents, to encourage some discussion. From what I've learned from Norm, he believes that the modern German showline dogs are not correct in their structure according to the standard. I will admit, I do not like some of the extreme toplines so encouraged now by the judging. This young female will probably not win her classes. Her father is V Champ von Dakota SchH3 Mother is V Zambie vom Steffen Haus SchH1 Notice she is somewhat different in her structure than her parents at this age. Will she mature to have more of the same curved topline? Or is she a throwback to a dog from the 1980's ? Is it the way she is stacked? Normie what are your thoughts here? Do you think she will grow into that roach? Hoping some others will join us here to discuss ?

Laurie, She will keep the topline she has now. I am sure that if you saw pictures of roached back adults as puppies they had the roach then. It is not just my belief about backs, it is written in the standard, to wit: "The back is straight, very strongly developed without sag or roach".... Her name is Hazel vom Haingraben, DOB April 2003. She caught my eye as well, I like her longer, straighter topline. .... Hello, I´m the breeder and owner of Hazel vom Haingraben. She is 6 months old in the picture. She will turn 9 months on January 15th. I didn´t show her yet, because we have a winter break until March in Germany now.
As Jezzi said a topline on a photo always depends on stacking, too. In the picture you can see on that message board Hazel does look straight. As you pointed out the standard says the topline has to be straight. An exaggerated topline brings a weak back with it mostly. This is not what we want to have. Hazel´s topline is normal, not too straight and not too slight. I have been showing dogs for many years. I have started the kennel in march after my father has given the kennel name to me. Hazel was out of my first litter. I think and I hope from the bottom of my heart that I will do very good places in Germany with her.
By the way thank you for your nice words on Hazel.

A nice looking bitch. I would want to see a more level back. She appears to have a short upper arm. She seems unbalanced to me with more length of bone and angulation in the rear vs the front. no comments on this girl Norm?

Hi Kirsten !
Welcome to the board ! I wanted to compliment you on Hazel, I think she's absolutely lovely.
I look forward to watching her mature, and following her show career. She already has a fanclub here in the USA ! Please keep us updated with photos!
Can you tell us why you chose Champ? What kind of a dog is he like in person?

I have to agree with Jezzi.I think Hazel is a gorgeous female.I also believe that vom Haingraben is starting a nice fan club here.I recently purchased a female from her Femke vom Haingraben (merry christmas to me in the say cheese topic).I have made a friend in Germany when I purchased Femke.Kirsten has a great amount of knowledge in the German Shepherd world,I believe this is one kennel in Germany we will be hearing alot about in the future!!

Champ is a big and very impressing dog. He does great in the ring with much power and a great movement. His bitework is full of drives and he is absolutely clear in head. I was always impressed by Champ. I choose Champ to mate Zambi, because they compliment each other.
