Altho Jake would never be a VA or in a top V... or even low V for that matters but will he go into the SG's? Heres a picture of him, not the best "back leg" pose but this is the best that I have ever took of Jake posing without looking sad or not wanting to do this, he did this on his own. Jake is Small for a male but his work is great, just ask Dana as I had sent her a 60sum MB of Jake doing tracking, obedience (a short one) and protection. I believe he does pretty good in both but I have a thing that he may not do to good in conformation. Note: I am using villagephotos and had no idea that they had a bandwidth limitation as when i had logged on it said "This account is locked for the remainder of the day for exceeding the daily bandwidth limit of 5.00MB." If theirs a red X on the picture... It's not you!

Yep, red X. Try again. Doesn't Jake have some American lines? Sorry to say this, but I have a feeling that he wouldn't do very well in the ring if he does.

Jake isnt 100% american lines... He's mostly German but he got his size from his mother. Jake is a bitchy dog. I still love him... if he doesnt make it, thats fine because that will be good on his part because he'll retire sooner Im hoping to get a BH and a SchH1 on him before i do

He's out of hair as well... Do you have more pictures of him... A proper stack probably not ... ;D But... Why don't you try showing him? Even if he's not in the top 5 in his classes... It would be a Great way for you to learn...

Brittany, I had a beautiful 75% German line male dog, and he was very handsome, with the blocky head of Vopo vom Kirschental. He was VP1 under Walter Martin, and SG2 under Thomas Teubert, but when I began disclosing his bloodlines, and USA required dogs to be USA registered, he went to the ends of the classes. I showed him and titled him and learned a lot in the process, so for that matter, I agree with Schaeferhund. There's never gonna be another dog like Jake for you, and, from what you've said, it'll take some time to train him to SchH1, but when you do, you'll be so proud of the both of you. If you're doing the showing for the fun of it, and for experience, then more power to ya! My old dogs of American/German lines are both gone, now, and they were very, very wonderful dogs, no matter what the origin of their bloodlines. Would I do it again, or perpetuate their "mixed" GSD bloodlines? No.

Heres a better picture of jake somewhat correctly stacked... It's not current but is the only picture that i can find, Tried doing some recents today but was unable to get jake to cooperate, as I was losing my cool i so decided to play with Jake as I don't want to make stacking a negitive thing to do. Heres the picture.

He is stacked on uneven ground and down hill. Not enough turn of stifle for me, showing a steep croup from the photo.

I would not fault his hind angulation. I don't mind a Lasso leg But it seems he's got a steep croup and a short upper arm. Somewhat flat withers.

Brittany,
Just remember the saying that most of us exhibitors have...Wherever he is placed!!! - 'I am taking the best dog in the show home with me'.
I think you wanted an honest opinion - with no punches pulled. For me, I agree with others that he has little turn of stifle, and also that the stifle is also a little long. His shoulder is not correct, which is why I think that 'Schaeferhund' faults his withers, I think. Also I think his croup is too steep. He is not in my eyes of Show Quality, but, hey! - who ever had a really 'top dog' as their first one?...He is still a beautiful dog and I am sure a wonderful companion. Subject to him having sound hips, there is nothing stopping you training him in Schutzhund, Working Trials, Obedience Trials, or even (God Forbid!) Agility or Flyball.
The one nice thing with our breed, is that if they don't come up to par there is always some other facet of our sport that you can compete in.
Like most of us, you will learn a lot with your first dog, and then, when the time is right, you will have another, and another, and eventually with some luck obtain or even breed one that is 'Close enough to Perfect'.
You have a lovely pet, enjoy him, love him and learn with him - you have many years in front of you to achieve all you desire.
I have been in this breed for over 60 years, and although I have owned a Champion, I have never bred one, and it is too late now to even think of it, so heres more power to your elbow, Gal !!
Kind regards to you, and a big HUGGGG for Jake.
John
(Added Later)...Looking at the later pics of his head, is it a bad pic, or are his two lower canine teeth pointing outwards? They should be vertical. Sorry if I sound harsh in my evaluation, but I have given you a 'detached' view, as I see Jake. Its far nicer to say - Gosh! what a lovely dog - and he is, but these faults are there (in my opinion), and I am not trying to be nice, just subjective!

I do appreciate EVERYBODY's honest opinion. The sec picture, I do admit is a bad picture. It is not because hes in uper hill or down hill... it's the way I had took the picture so it's my fault on that. Jake is my life. I could not believe how much a dog can really change your life so much. Jake was a God's gift from me, Dont think I would get a dog like Jake anywhere else in the US or the world. Even if he isnt good in SV conformation... He's still my boy and that I'd still love him whenever not he can win or can win conformation Again thanks for the opinions

Brittany,
Do not discount Jake. He can be your training dog for SCH and show.
My male is 1/2 AM (not show, do ON and herding)and 1/2 Ger working lines.
He is SCH2, OB3, SG1, and KK2 life. He broke a 2nd canine prior to his SCH3 and IPO3.
No, he is not the sport or show dog, but I learned a ton from him. Why not work with Jake and get the experience?

Brittany, I forgot to add something in my last post, and rather than modify it, I will add another post. 8 months ago, I decided I wanted another bitch, to have some fun in the show ring, and to probably breed just one litter with (remember I am 68, and the dogs will probably outlast me!). So I went to shows up and down the country, and liked the looks of the progeny of a Male called Carozand Enzo. I approached his owner, and asked him if the dog had been mated to any nice bitches lately, and got a list of addresses. I particularly liked one bitch who was a winning Show dog, but more importantly had Excellent German and Show winning, and working dogs behind her, and booked the pick of the litter Bitch at a cost of 900 dollars (your money!). About 2 months later, Carozand Enzo had become a Champion, and then went on to be the Crufts Winner last March (Crufts is the biggest Dog Show in the World!), which proved my choice of dog! I now have Sara - and as she grew, she firstly developed a 'hooked tail' (in fact now it forms a full circle back to the root of the tail!), and also minus an F1 tooth (which has made one Canine tooth half an inch more forward than the other). Both very serious Show faults. So much so, that I will never breed her, and she will shortly be neutered. So much for over 60 years knowledge in the breed - and I got another pet dog!!! I am now importing my 'last chance dog' from Australia who has been bred with lines back to some of my dogs that were exported to Australia in the 1970's. His name is 'Olly' (named after Champion Olivia of Eveley) who is one of my old dogs in his pedigree. He was bred by Tony (Dianne on these boards' husband), and has been winning consistently as a baby out in Australia. img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-11/502287/OllyandTonyTHELANDOctober,30,2003.JPG (if picture not showing, please click on link!) Olly (Gipfel Midnite Serenade) with his fatherDianne will be travelling here in June with Olly for a holiday with us here in UK, and then leaving him here with us. More on this later, obviously! If you would like to see the story of Sara, and Olly on their web site, plus lots of other GSD stuff and some of my music (I am a musician!) - please click on the following link. members.tripod.com/~story_of_sara/www/Kind regards, John

:)Hey Brittany, Jake's a nice looking dog...I , along with Schaeferhund think a Lasso leg is ok...The way he's stacked standing down hill doesn't do him justice. It does make the front arm look short , croup steep etc... but you'd be amazed how different a dog can look when an experienced person stacks him.....And in the show ring it's anybody's day......I have a female that I've done very well with that's 1/2 amer/1/2 West Ger. Father was a well known West Ger. dog, but I haven't advertised the fact of her heritage since she has her father's looks... ;)Hang in there! Experience, experience.... ;DAmara
