I’ve never fed lamb before, but the other day my local store had “lamb neck bones for soup” on sale. The bone piece was larger than I anticipated, and there was a large chunk of meat attached.
I’ve heard that lamb can be kind of rich for some dogs, so I cut off the large extra flap of meat to save for later, and let the dog have the RMB portion. He loved it – and had no problem eating the bone. However, he woke me up at 3:30 am to go outside....yep, he had the runs.
Can I build up his tolerance for lamb, or is it likely that he’ll always be kind of sensitive to it?

We've feed lamb using the Fargo recipe and never had a problem. But try just adding a small amount to his diet, adding more as he gets used to it.

Yes, lamb is VERY rich! You could try adding small amounts slowly.

I had the same problem with my two dogs. I just started to give them lamb ribs these past two weeks and both of them got me up during the night to go outside.
I figure their systems just need time to get used to this. Lamb can be very rich.

thank you, everyone! I guess I was too eager to try the new stuff...should have given him a smaller portion to start. ...which is what I will do next time!

I've never fed lamb cause its soooo expensive here. Probably not worth it, if it comes out the other end too fast Liz, can I ask how much per pound it was?

hi, Laurie. The lamb necks were about 1.20/lb...which is very cheap as compared to the prices for other lamb products. I rarely see the neck bones, though - so I bought 2 packs for less than $2.00 - it will definitely be just an occasional thing for us.
