Hi Brit. I think the liver is quite beautiful. The white with black belongs to a BYB & yes, she breeds her all the time. I call it the Freak.

I would hardly call it " disgusting " - a fault, yes, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Liver and tan: Solid Liver... And let's not forget the other recessive dilute gene, blue... Solid blue... All pics from www.4gsd.net/colours.html

I think the liver dogs are beautiful. That solid liver is gorgeous. I used to know a liver shep.
The white shep with black is a peculiar sight. Not sure I'd breed her though.
And before you go yelling and screaming about my liking livers, blues, whites, and other 'unacceptable' colors--I will remind you what Max said about color. "No good dog can be a bad color."

Wolf, that liver color is gorgeous. El, the white freak just had 13 pups, including 5 freaks. I'm not bashing whites but white with half a black face!

The two different colours in "The Freak" does make you wonder whether there is another breed back in the ancestry. Fancy getty bred time and time again just because of your colour. Poor thing and what a dreadful name for a dog even if she is not correct to the standard. The owner shows poor use of imagination.

There was actually a discussion about this 'freak' dog on another GSD board. I think the conclusion was that this dog didn't have a complete masking factor from the white gene allowing the black to show through like that.
I can't see a reason to breed a dog like that other than for the novelty.

www.gaardog.com/coats_&_colors.htm What a sad website. They are promoting the breeding of horrible colors and poor confirmation. Its breeders like that who place dogs into bad homes. d**ned puppy mill.

In defense of Gaardog Shepherds, I believe that web page on their site, is just to inform about the different coats and colors that a GSD may have. I do not believe that they are promoting breeding dogs with those coats. If you take a closer look at their website, and at their sires and dams, you will see that they are breeding some very nice dogs. In fact, the best GSD I ever owned was a puppy from Gaardog Shepherds, and I would have no reservations whatsoever getting another from them.

Can you explain to me how dogs that are grossly out of standard are very nice? Certainly doesn't fit my own description of "very nice" breeding dogs.
